The major causes of the Cold War was the idea logic and economy differences between United States and Soviet Union after World War2. The race was to see who could find and create the better technology full of power and bomb. But Russia's communism collapsed so they lost. I believe yes it could have been possible but it would have been over ruled because not everyone can sit and talk it out and make everything ok. But I believe America being America, a)scared them selves but as we'll got a big head full of air. Why are we allowed to walk on someone else's soil and tell them this is what's going to happen and this is how it's going to be. Finding common ground hasn't work in the best in small areas of history. We help countries yea and try to be like god but that is so we have global trade since world war 1. But I believe in two things as we'll hostile action and intentions were pushed and given.

Hey Becca! I enjoyed reading your answer! I really like how you expanded on the second question and also gave your personal opinion. Do you believe that the president of both sides at that time played a determining role in the turn out of the Cold War?

The major causes of the hostility between the a United States and the Soviet Union after World War II, or the Cold War, are related to the difference in ideologies between those two great powers. With the end of World War II, the Soviet Union became increasingly concerned about their security and influence especially when considering Germany and its invasions of Russia. The United States, on the other hand, saw economic concerns with the end of World War II. America believed that the Depression was the cause of the World War II and as well the reason for many countries' cut back in trade. For that reason, the United States believed that economic growth was the key to world peace. With this view, America saw the responsibly to promote economic growth. This idea went along with the encouragement of democracy and free enterprise, so that stability would be brought back. Besides being concerned about their security, the USSR was supportive of the communist system. They wanted to encourage communism in other countries and saw that capitalist countries would try to prevent that and destroy communism.

I really like your post Arjana. I agree that this war was over the difference in ideologies between the two. I especially like your concluding sentence where you described them as "contrasting and powerful ideas." Well answered.

Great job Arjana! I'm not sure you missed one single detail! ;) I think I agree that the Cold War would have been a hard war to prevent.

Throughout WWII The Soviet Union and the United States had a common interest. When WWII had been won the two parties no longer agreed. Especially on government systems. While The Soviet Union leaned towards Marxism and Communism, the more democratic U.S. vehemently disagreed with this system. George F. Kennan introduced the policy that Communism could stay put but it would not be allowed to spread. When the USSR continued to recruit nations for the Communist agenda, such as Cuba, the U.S. did not hesitate to put a kibosh on that with missiles located in Turkey and Italy. These missiles were in range of the Soviet Union and the Soviets did not appreciate the gesture. The USSR responded by placing its own missiles in Cuba, causing the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. Now that each nation had the capability to destroy the other in a matter of minutes, they were locked in a stalemate called Mutual Assured Destruction (M.A.D.) The combination of conflicting ideologies and nuclear weapons caused what we now recognize as the Cold War. Of course the actual conflict never came to what we would categorize as an official war though there was war like behavior occurring in Korea and other Asian entities and countries.

The major causes of the Cold War consisted of the increasing tensions between America and the Soviet Union. There are many reasons why the Cold War happened, but some people lay the blame on Soviet expansionism, American global ambitions, and more. The Soviets and Americans disagreed on the postwar vision because the Soviets were uncomfortable with the ideal of self-determination for its empire, so these minor disputes turned into massive disagreements and, eventually, to war. Also, Churchill and Roosevelt met with Stalin to discuss what would happen to Poland among other things; however, the group could not reach a solid conclusion which just created another gap between the two countries. Poland and Germany’s future after war was debated about and no real agreement took place among Stalin and Roosevelt. “The Yalta accords, in other words, were less a settlement of postwar issues than a set of loose principles that sidestepped the most difficult questions.” This faulty accord assisted in furthering the tension of the US and the Soviet Union which provoked America further towards war. However, Truman’s distrust of Stalin and the Soviet Union was a major factor in how the Cold War was started. He accused them of violating the Yalta accords which made it hard for the Soviets to carry out their previous agreements. Among other things, the Truman Doctrine increased the mistrust of these countries by going against communism. Communism was what the USSR wanted, yet Truman thought communism was bad and wouldn’t tolerate it. These conflicts could have been prevented if Franklin Roosevelt would have lived during this tragedy because Truman wasn’t good at dealing with international productions. Roosevelt would have handled these disagreements differently and possibly more peacefully than Truman did. Also, if Truman would have been more trusting and realized that communism collapses on its own eventually (most likely), there would have been less threats and arguments and more peace and results. I think pride got in the way of peace. Both Stalin and Truman viewed themselves as undoubtedly right in their ideals and beliefs, so agreeing on anything wasn’t really in the equation.

The Cold war was an arms race. The country with the biggest, baddest, technology would win. It could have been partially prevent if America had not dropped the atom bomb. Both Russia and America were the two major victors of WW2 and the cold war was basically a war to see who would have actually won the war single handedly.

There were several causes that could have led us into the cold war. One being the Truman doctrine. The Truman doctrine by definition was that the US should support to countries threatened by Soviet forces or communism. The doctrine was seen by the communist as a declaration of the cold war. The next thing to think about is the foreign relationships. FDR was still alive during the Tehran conference. Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin met together for the first time. The overall objective of the conference to coordinate Allied stagey against the Axis powers globally. The conference was successful and they later had conferences later in the war. Then FDR died and Truman became president and the Yalta conference took place. The conference was to discuss Europe's post-war reconstruction. Stalin and Truman didn't exactly get along or agree on much. And this was the same with Adkin and Stalin. Maybe if FDR would have lived maybe we would have been over with the war and be able to compromise. Another thing to think about would be globalized trade. If countries become communism that would threaten trade. I honestly believe that if FDR was still alive the war could have been prevented. FDR was like a peace keeper between the countries. Also communism has a tendency to self destruct itself. We could have waited and not have got into it.

Today is an internet age, you can find any information on the net, you can even get an education from the net through distance learning. In fact, the internet is becoming a great way to do just about anything, including gambling.
